TRIAL JUMPERS STANDARD NOTES
December 29, 2003
HIDAC
Industry Hills
Dirt
41.54 seconds (under SCT 42). Another course where I expected time to be tight. I pushed Remy a little and he jumped great. 3rd place. MXJ Title 59.61 seconds (under SCT 67). This course wasn't nearly as hard as the prior two days, and Remy was great throughout. 1st place (beating a dog by .75 seconds) 14 points Our first three-day trial, and Remy seemed to get better every day. This was our third double Q.
December 28, 2003
HIDAC
Industry Hills
Dirt
41.83 seconds (over SCT 41). Remy was great on this course, even though the footing was loose and he had to be careful jumping. This was the type of course we can't cut corners on. 2nd place. 9/10 for MXJ 61.61 seconds (under SCT 76). One of the most difficult courses we've ever run (comparable to Sept 7). Remy was amazing, but sneezed (literally) at the weave entrance and missed the first pole. Great table performance. Today's runs were just amazing. Remy really stepped up to some very difficult courses.
December 27, 2003
Hi Desert AC
Industry Hills
Dirt
40.99 seconds (over SCT 40). I really wasn't ready when our time came, and hadn't done the usual rituals. Remy was raring to go. The combination resulted in a crash at bar #1, after which we ran a good course. 74.36 seconds (over SCT 67). A great run until the table, where Remy took his time getting into sit position, and then left the table early without a signal from me. That was a table fault and a ton of time lost. I was really rusty, and Remy was anxious after a week off. We looked great at places but the faults were pretty bad.
December 14, 2003
Kennel Club of Palm Springs
Pomona
Dirt
42.02 seconds (under SCT 43). The sort of open course where we have traditionally had trouble making time, I was happy with the speed but we knocked two bars (#5 and the triple at #14), both due to handler error. I need to time crosses based on Remy's position, not where I'm standing!!! ??.?? seconds (under SCT 73). The timer/scribe yelled out Remy's name just as we started, and we crashed the first bar, never really recovering. Rem did well on the tough bits but this was a bad experience. Rule: if the timer or scribe stops you, STOP. Don't go on. By continuing, and not being clean, we blew our chance to run over. I was really upset by the mess up on the standard course... it was a good course for us and I never shook off the start problem. The judge said later that the correct thing to do is stop and tell the judge what happened.
December 13, 2003
Kennel Club of Palm Springs
Pomona
Dirt
41.90 seconds (under SCT 46). Remy was very solid on a twisty course, and looked great. Great speed and jumping - Remy seems to have figured out this faster pace. 3rd place. 4 pts 8/10 for MXJ 61.25 seconds (under SCT 75). Our first run after a one-month layoff. Great run except that I crowded Remy before jump #10 and he took it at a hard angle and brought the bar down. Remy didn't look rusty at all, and the handling was nearly perfect. Only a small handling error stood in the way of a double Q.
November 15, 2003
Hollywood Dog Obedience Club
Lakeview Terrace
Damp grass
42.38 seconds (under SCT 45). An awesome run spoiled by the handler leaving out a front cross at the last obstacle (#19), which Remy sliced too sharply and dropped. 61.82 seconds (under SCT 78). After wrapping the pole on the triple (WOW!) he took off too early racing to catch up with me and dropped bar #8. Also missed the weave entrance (bad line from handler). Remy was excellent except for the early take off on the standard course. His spread jumps were great, and look at those times!
November 9, 2003
AC of Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara
Mud
47.79 seconds (under SCT 49). If it had been dry out we would have done great on this course, but the churned up mud was hard to run in (for the handler). A refusal (because handler was in bad position) and one bar fell (#16). 66.82 seconds (under SCT 78). On a very muddy surface Remy was amazing! 22 points MX TITLE! It was just plain muddy out after a heavy night time rain, and we went to have fun and got an MX in the process!
November 8, 2003
AC of Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara
Dirt
43.51 seconds (over SCT 43). All of our rear crosses were sloppy and slow, and Remy was jumping too early. #10 and #18 fell. The bars that fell were Remy's fault, but the handling was weak. 55.48 seconds (under SCT 66). I knew the 9/10 transition would be hard and it turned out to be our undoing as Remy chose a tight line and dropped #10. Also dropped the triple at #18 with an early takeoff. Remy looked better than his handler, who mis-timed rear crosses and didn't give good support to jumps.
November 2, 2003
DAC of Ventura
Camarillo
Grass
43.30 seconds (over SCT 42). I knew when I saw this course that time would be tight. A little off course bit at a tunnel sucker (saved) cost us time. Bars #1 and #18 fell. 61.15 seconds (under SCT 69). Again a little slow on the table, but the worst was jumping back on the table after leaving (wrong course) and then missing the weave entrance. Remy looked fine, other than on the table. We've got to work on that one!
November 1, 2003
DAC of Ventura
Camarillo
Grass
45.36 seconds (under SCT 46). Did great on the tricky bits, but it looked like Remy ran out of steam and knocked bars 16 and 18. 63.83 seconds (under SCT 73). Slow to get into a down on the table, but otherwise very good. Just barely brushed the top bar of the triple down. This was our first day of agility after a three week layoff. Remy was in pretty good form (although a little out of juice and not jumping 100%).
October 12, 2003
SCAT
Costa Mesa
Grass
44.07 seconds (under SCT 46). We had to use a lot of rear crosses, so our time was a little slow but we were clean. 3rd place. 1 pt 7/10 for MXJ 69.99 seconds (under SCT 78). Remy was a little tired (or distracted?). We lost about four seconds on the table, but otherwise he was clean on a tricky course. 3rd place. 8 pts 9/10 for MX More great jumping, our second double Q. I may have worn Remy out during warmups (I was handling him solo for the standard run).
October 11, 2003
SCAT
Costa Mesa
Grass
44.97 seconds (under SCT 48). Even though there were lots of jumps at odd angles, Remy ran well. 3rd place. 3 pts 6/10 for MXJ 61.98 seconds (under SCT 72). Carried too much speed off the dog walk and overshot the weave entrance. Also flew over the table! Remy's jumping was awesome this weekend. We did a lot of jump practice during the week, and it showed.
October 5, 2003
PBGV
Lakeview Terrace
Grass
41.90 seconds (under SCT 47). Remy knocked the bar on #7 when I crowded him on the landing side. I knew this was a problem during walk, but never found a good solution. 62.13 seconds (under SCT 76). Knocked two bars - a single at #15 and the double at #20, both with very early takeoffs by Remy. I didn't support #15 well. The double was Remy racing to keep up. Again, we ran well except for the bars that fell. Remy looked awesome. Great speed, but no ribbons this weekend.
October 4, 2003
PBGV
Lakeview Terrace
Grass
40.61 seconds (under SCT 42). It's not clear why bar #2 came down. I need to remember to take the first few jumps slow until we're up to speed. 61.74 seconds (under SCT 73). Knocked the triple as Remy raced to catch up with me - I was too far ahead. On the table, if I back away a little he can see my signals better. We ran great, but a couple of bars made the difference between glory and no Qs.
September 28, 2003
Terry All KC
Brighton, Colorado
Dirt, indoors
40.82 seconds (under SCT 43). A beautiful run on a tight twisty course, but Remy tapped the bar on the triple and it fell. Probably handler error (pulled up for a 180 degree turn). 67.63 seconds (under SCT 75). A great run, even though we had a few handling bobbles that cost some time. 2nd place. 10 pts 8/10 for MX A good night's sleep was the cure for both the altitude and the travel. Remy was awesome today.
September 27, 2003
Terry All KC
Brighton, Colorado
Dirt, indoors
51.36 seconds (over SCT 49). An open "fast" course, the type have time trouble on. Hit the triple because the takeoff area was soft sand in a depression. 72.52 seconds (under SCT 73). Late handling at a discrimination killed us, plus some lost time getting down at the table. Also knocked the triple, but that was due to bad handling. Running in the Mile High City for the first time, the altitude may have had something to do with our times, but travel the week before certainly messed up the handler.
September 21, 2003
Rottweilers
Industry, CA
Dirt, under cover
44.99 seconds (under SCT 47). A very smooth, although conservative run. Excellent jumping. 2nd place. 3 pts 5/10 for MXJ 65.16 seconds (under SCT 70). Remy seemed tired (we warmed him up too much) but ran just fine, if a little slow. 2nd place. 6 pts 7/10 for MX Our first double Q! I'm wondering if we need to find a better way to keep Remy's energy up for the fourth run (food?).
September 20, 2003
Rottweilers
Industry, CA
Dirt, under cover
41.34 seconds (under SCT 42). Awesome run by Remy, but a bone-headed front cross at #11 crowded Remy into the bar. 59.10 seconds (under SCT 72). Remy handled like a dream, with awesome contacts. Awarded 31 pts (mistake?) 6/10 for MX Remy looked awesome all day.
September 7, 2003
DART
Chino, CA
Grass
41.57 seconds (under SCT 45). Didn't make crosses that I had planned. Bad line over #10 and double #14, both of which fell. 64.66 seconds (under SCT 70). Good line but lost 4 seconds on the up side of A-frame and a few seconds at the table. Only 8" qualifier. 10 pts 5/10 for MX The jumpers run was scatter brained but I kept focus on the std course. Very few dogs Q'd on standard.
September 6, 2003
DART
Chino, CA
Grass
45.50 seconds (over SCT 45). We were tired after a long day travelling on Friday and it showed. Didn't run a good line (thus the time), knocked the last bar (#20). 63.85 seconds (under SCT 78). Fast, but knocked bar 2 and bar 17 (the same jump). #2 was due to crowded line, #17 was too flat from speed off the dog walk. Hot out and all concerned were tired. Remy clicked a lot of bars all day.
August 31, 2003
Portugese Water Dogs
Ventura, CA
Grass
44.53 seconds (under SCT 48). Careful run through the tight opening sequence gave a great line and good time for second place. 4 pts 4/10 for MXJ 59.64 seconds (under SCT 68). Awesome early but sped up (probably too much) after the dogwalk and knocked the double at the end of a long straight run. Also a teeter flyoff! A conservative start was just what the doctor ordered. Blew our first chance at a double-Q in a while with too much speed.
August 30, 2003
Portugese Water Dogs
Ventura, CA
Grass
42.20 seconds (under SCT 43). Knocked bar #4 at the end of a long straight, and a runout at the tunnel. This was a tight, choppy course but Remy's time was ok. 66.64 seconds (under SCT 76). Several rough spots (slipped on the A-frame, nearly blew the weave entrance, but good solid run. 2nd place. 13 pts 4/10 for MX Ran with electronic timing for the first time. Diane postulates that we need to be more conservative with the opening 5-6 jumps of the day, until Remy gets his rhythm.
August 10, 2003
SCAT
Costa Mesa, CA
Grass
39.77 seconds (under SCT 42). Handled well but knocked three bars including the triple (because I pulled up on the landing side). 57.27 seconds (under SCT 67). It was way hot, so no warmups and conservative line. Finished clean, and first place by .08 seconds. 18 pts 3/10 for MX Just as hot as Saturday, but by running conservatively we did ok.
August 9, 2003
SCAT
Costa Mesa, CA
Grass
44.67 seconds (under SCT 45). Knocked a bar in the final sequence, not really clear why (Remy just barely tapped it). Did great with a tough tunnel sucker at the start. 58.89 seconds (under SCT 70). Remy was great on the entire course, even though I ran on the opposite side of what I had walked in many places. But knocked a bar between tunnel and weaves, probably just a mis-timed jump. By the second run (std) it was extremely hot out. But we had lots of water and did ok.
August 3, 2003
PBGV
Burbank, CA
Grass
44.55 seconds (over SCT 44). Knocked a bar on the second jump, apparently because I was giving him a sharply angled line. A little flustered at weave exit (missed last pole) and lost a little time. 65.09 seconds (under SCT 75). Another fast performance, but took a tunnel trap, due to a poorly shaped jump-path before. Also took a few seconds to get in down position on table. Lesson: eat breakfast every trial day. I was a little light headed for standard.
August 2, 2003
PBGV
Burbank, CA
Grass
43.59 seconds (under SCT 45). Knocked a bar on the second jump, I crowded him and the angle was pretty severe. Otherwise awesome. 61.46 seconds (under SCT 75). Blazingly fast, with a great tunnel/dog walk discrimination. First place. 26 pts 2/10 for MX Short grass, a little damp with dew for the jumpers run. Ground a little uneven, but not bad.
July 13, 2003
Wags for Wishes
Del Mar, CA
Short Grass
45.5 seconds (under SCT 47). Missed the entry to the weave poles (like many dogs in excellent did). After that we ran for speed, knocking a single bar near the end. 64.94 seconds (under SCT 77). Lost 2 secs at table, but we were clean and fast. Second place by 10 seconds. 18 pts 1/10 for MX Beautiful grass field - level, short grass, and smooth. Clean on all four spread jumps!
July 11, 2003
American Spaniels
Riverside, CA
Dry Grass
45.09 seconds (under SCT 46). Missed a cross and as a result spent 2 seconds calling Remy off a tunnel. A good run. 3/10 for MXJ 72.69 seconds (under SCT 78). Hit the triple, then melted down (flew off table, wrong course, weave entry error). Our first time in B/B. Learned that I need to run through the triple and have faith!

The trial below was the last trial Remy ran in Excellent A. From this point on, we're eligible for double Qs. At this point our Q rate in jumpers is 38% (5/13), although if you consider the clean run on 6/28 that was over time due to the surface, he's running around 44%. Our Q rate in standard is 21% (3/14).

TRIAL JUMPERS STANDARD NOTES

Contact Point
Ventura, CA
Grass
52.84 seconds (over SCT 49). Knocked triple (almost looked like he ran through the bars). Handling was sloppy (didn't visualize before start), so time wasn't awesome. ExA: 63.97 seconds (under SCT 74). Clean, even with the triple on an uphill slope. Remy's AX Title Similar to the previous day, but we had about 25 minutes between runs.
July 4, 2003
Contact Point
Ventura, CA
Grass
Crashed landed into the triple (down onto top two bars), so we left the course. Had been doing great in tricky serpentines. ExA: 63.97 seconds (under SCT 74). Clean until triple at last jump. From video it looked like fatigue (not lifting back legs firmly). The trial ring was on a slight slope, with the JWW triple uphill. Ran nearly back to back with very little time to refresh. Clearly Remy was tired.
June 29, 2003
Shoreline
Anaheim, CA
Long Grass
Decided not to run (Happy Birthday Diane). ExA: 70.48 seconds (under SCT 72). Runout at the start of a serpentine (to wrong side of jump) and then knocked a bar. Looking at the video, it's pretty clear this was just a case of us being out of sync due to the heavy grass. Incredibly long grass made for extra effort just to run - very hard to make time. Times consistent with last time we ran in long grass (Chicago).
June 28, 2003
Shoreline
Anaheim, CA
Long Grass
56.98 seconds (over SCT 50), clean but slowed by the surface. ExA: 74.40 seconds (over SCT 71) caught by a tunnel trap. Lost about 7 seconds due to recovery (and judge not starting count on table on time).
June 21, 2003
Golden Retrievers
Simi Valley, CA
Grass
41.98 seconds (over SCT 41), but knocked the triple. ExA: 61.27 seconds (under SCT 73) but once again knocked the triple. Our first run, including class, in nearly three weeks. Standard first.
May 26, 2003

43.47 seconds (under SCT 47), but jumped early for the triple and knocked a bar. ExA: Ran 9.23 seconds under SCT of 78, even with over 7.5 seconds trying to fix a runout at a tunnel!

42.54 seconds (under SCT 43), beating one dog. Ran cautiously, trying to be clean. 1/10 for MXJ ExA: Runout and a couple knocked bars... the reason we ran cautiously in Jumpers! Our only trial on carpet to date, several errors in standard so we ran very cautiously in jww.
